Mr Kong's

We had a day out at the Good Food Show and a meal at Mr Kong’s while visiting London and both really excelled themselves this time!

Although we booked in advance it was still a bit of a wait in the queue on Saturday night to get a table at Mr Kong’s but this can be turned into a positive by shopping at the See Woo supermarket next door or watching the crowds and dim sum demonstrations in other restaurant windows along Lisle Street while we take turns in the queue.  If you are hungry it may be frustrating but be assured it is worth the wait.

We ordered a feast, and the dishes were cooked exquisitely.  We had the scallops signature dish for starters and it was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth with the burst of chilli in the accompanying sauce with soy and spring onions accenting the sweet scallops perfectly.  Prawn sesame toast were also ordered, little squares of moreish savouries rich but good on a winters evening.

For main course the pork and garlic shoots were ordered – salty tender slivers of pork with glossy green quills of delicious delicate garlic shoots, a hit with our daughter.  Sizzling Garlicky king prawns, always a show stopper as it arrives in its hot cast iron dish at the table, is so perfect and simple – just cooked king prawns curled in on themselves against the brief blistering heat, accompanied by slivers of garlic and onion.  The duck with ginger and pineapple was a revelation, tender steamed duck flash fried with fresh pineapple and pickled stem ginger – the perfect balance of flavours highlights that gorgeous duck.  Finally we tried the lamb with Sichuan chilli – another delicate yet full flavoured dish perfect for a winter evening – and the sweet and sour pork.  All served with Chinese green tea and a Tsing  Tsao beer!
