Good Food Show
We visited the
Good Food show on the Sunday, family day.
The layout seemed good this year – the eating experience and wine show
were on the balcony while the producers’ village and masterchef theatre was on
the ground floor.
We enjoyed
our taster menu samples, and the real star this time seemed Blue Elephant –
their signature dish purple eggplant and scallop salad with black truffle oil was
spot on, so fragrant and delicate. Their
stand was beautifully decorated with flowers and they handed out samples of
curry paste which we appreciated.
We also
tried the welsh black sirloin steak with pepper sauce from the Good Food
kitchen, of course very tasty, and Tokri Chaat from Chutney Mary – a potato
lace basket filled with street food goodies.
We also tried the desserts on offer from Life, Fork and Spoon by James
Martin – everyone’s favourite was definitely the sticky toffee pudding,
followed by the lemon tart.
We then
enjoyed going round the producers’ market sampling pates, honeys, chocolates,
toffee vodka, argan oil, truffle oil – it was all a delight for the
senses! As were the wines we sampled in
the wine show – the highlight was an unusual oak musty Burgundy and of course a Margeau – so
rounded and velvet and multi layer it took you to another place! Wow.
The
celebrities Greg Wallace and John Torode cooked for us in the Masterchef
theatre, there were book signings and a bookable session of wine tasting with
Oz Clark, and everyone seemed in a great pre Christmas cheery mood.
We bought
special treats such as Himalayan sea salt
truffle oil and apple juice useful for Christmas cooking, easily
transportable all the way back to Wales!
Looking forward to next year's show…
