Gwalia Cafe and Bakery

Situated in Pwllheli town centre, this gem of a place seems to have changed little for 40 years and is still one of the town’s most popular eateries.

The bakery shop sells a variety of loaves, pies, sandwiches and cakes and always seems busy.  If you go up a few steps at the back you enter the sit down restaurant.  The old fashioned booths, dark wood tables and chairs, and high shelves decorated with blue china plates, make for a very retro and solid décor. The waitress service is friendly and efficient yet unhurried.

There is an extensive menu including an array of traditional  roast dinners, salads and sandwiches (not to mention the classic puddings and cakes fresh from their own bakery) plus a children’s menu which includes standard favourites - chicken nuggets. chips and peas or beans.

We chose an all day breakfast – orange juice, the 'Full English', (bacon, sausage, egg mushrooms, beans, and hash browns) plus a round of buttered toast with a portion of marmalade and choice of pot of tea or coffee – all for £6.50. Although it was definitely Welsh, it unashamedly satisfied all expectations of what a 'Full English' should be, and was fantastic value for a BIG meal.

A great place to eat if you are camping and need a break from cooking on the camp stove, or if you’ve spent all morning on the beach, or the day turns rainy…and you fancy a good stoke-up.  It has an old fashioned charm which may make you nostalgic for childhood holidays which you may want to share with your own kids!
