CONWAY WATER GARDENS DUTCH PANCAKE HOUSE
EATING OUT
IN RURAL CONWAY
We noticed
that a handsome free tourist information booklet has been produced for this
season, listing eateries in rural Conway – available at Tourist Offices and
at Bodnant Welsh Food Centre.
One of the
attractions listed which we can personally vouch for is the Dutch Pancake House
Glyn Isa Rowen LL32 8TP.
If you take
the B5106 from Conway itself towards Trefiw you have a breathtaking view over the river Conway before turning inland (follow the
brown aquatic sign) towards Conway water gardens.
Situated in
the grounds of a 17th century house (which also offers bed and
breakfast) the car park leads onto a small children’s playground and a number
of animal attractions. There are a variety
of ducks and hens to feed (bags of feed can be purchased from the shop) plus
otters to watch at their feeding times, and capybaras (which look like giant
gentle guinea pigs) further along a nature trail. Inside the warm shop are wonderful arrays of
tropical fish and corals for sale alongside serious aquarium equipment, plus a
small reptile section with corn snakes, lizards, and tortoises (when we
visited) so even if the weather is indifferent there is something to enjoy! Outside pond equipment and plants are for
sale and there is a pool full of gorgeous koi carp.
All this is
great fun for kids and animal lovers and all entirely free. What is more, it is open all year round.
The pancake
house is the perfect place to wind up after seeing everything. It is relaxed and welcoming, decorated with
Van Gogh reproductions and Dutch china plates (and there is a small aquarium
with clown fish). The beverages are
reasonable and the pancakes delicious (we had the classic cherry, ice cream and
cream variety that were very generous). There is a children’s menu also.
